Welcome to 2019 everyone! We are looking forward to a great season ahead. Speaking of seasons the Minnesota catch and release trout season is now open! All 8 counties in SE Minnesota are open for fishing now. The Vermillion River near Farmington MN is not included in this opening, it is one county outside of the 8 that are now open. Wisconsin opens up on Saturday January 5th for catch and release trout fishing, and the weather is looking plenty warm for fishing that entire week. It is supposed to be in the 40’s on Saturday. The streams should be in great shape right now and for the Wisconsin opener. What should you use for flies? Size 18 zebra midges, size 16 scuds, small wooly buggers, any small nymph with pink on it, and some griffiths gnats or other dry fly midge patterns in case there is a hatch of midges. Midges can hatch even if the temps are below freezing. Get out there and have some fun!
